The Bayan Seniors Water Project
The Sogan Foundation is pleased to announce a new project to provide a clean, safe water supply to a small senior community in Golok, Tibet.
In keeping with tradition, families have established a community of their elders in a specially designated area on the grounds of their local monastery, called Bayan (or Wayan). Monasteries in Tibet’s nomadic regions often serve as a peaceful sanctuary where a family’s parents and grandparents can retire from the demanding life of the nomad. The families build their seniors a simple home there, safe in the assurance that monks will visit regularly while the family travels with its herds to distant pastures.
Currently, the elderly residents at Bayan have no running water. They must walk a considerable distance to the monastery’s water source, fill their buckets, and carry the water with great effort back to their homes.
With your help, we will fund a water system to bring fresh water directly to this senior community, which now has about 80 residents and is expected to grow to 300 within a few short years.
