TIST Construction Complete!

In October, 2006, construction on the Tibetan Institute for Science and Technology was completed. The building was inspected at each phase of the construction, and upon completion, it was officially certified as conforming to the architectural plans as well as the government building codes. On October 14, 2006, the TIST was officially certified for occupancy. The beautiful new building is three stories tall and 28,740 square feet, with a facade that incorporates decorative elements from traditional Tibetan architecture. Inside, the pristine building awaits books for its library, desks, chairs, computers, and instructional materials for its classrooms. We invite your participation as we strive to meet our goal of supplying the TIST with all it needs to open in 2007.

In April, 2006, construction began on the TIST building, and on May 13, our locally based project team conducted an inspection. Photos of the site visit show the first floor under construction, with brick walls forming the structure around sturdy concrete pillars. The brick will provide necessary insulation for enduring Golok's harsh winter climate. Check back regularly for more photo updates!

Foundation Construction

By the end of October, the frigid winter conditions make construction impossible in Golok. The foundation therefore had to be laid within two months' time. Look through the photo album to see the workers preparing the ground, the construction crew laying the concrete, and the finished structure going through inspection. The foundation was completed on October 27, 2005. Look for more photos and updates when construction resumes in April, 2006!

On September 1,2005, ground was broken for the TIST building. In addition to the administration of the CCTHS and members of our own project management team, the ceremony was attended by the leadership of Golok's education division; Geshe Gelek Rabgye, a highly respected professor and community leader; and two of Golok's most revered poets and writers, Ju Kalsang and Dong Norde. The ceremony was widely covered by the local and regional media.
